A third of the Class of 2024 plans to attend graduate school after graduation, while 13% plan to take a gap year. Almost half of the class plans to start a full-time job after graduation. A quarter of the Class of 2024 plans to move to the northeast after graduation, and 22% plan to remain in the south. Beginning this fall, Rohit Kataria (‘24) is pursuing a Masters in Public Policy at the Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government.

“While there, I plan to refine the policy skills I began developing as a Public Policy Studies major at Vanderbilt and dive deeper into issues of higher education access. The friends I made at Vanderbilt who supported my dreams and engaged in the nerdiest policy conversations deepened my love for higher education policy and gave me more confidence in my path forward,” Kataria said. “Outside of my friendships, I was blessed to have so many professors who believed in my potential and pushed me to ensure I always put my best foot forward. It was the people at Vanderbilt, both inside and outside the classroom, that have best prepared me for the steps ahead.”

Only 1% of the Class of 2024 is pursuing an internship or fellowship after graduation. Yan is starting as an Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies Fellow in the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus in the House of Representatives in September.

“I’ll be working on legislation and policies that advocate for AANHPI communities in that role,” Yan said. “My long-term plan is to stay on the Hill in legislative roles and work on health equity for marginalized communities.”
